Bertolt Brecht’in geliştirdiği Epik Tiyatro’nun yine çeviri yolu ile Türk oyun
Tiyatro’nun etkilerini, özelde ise Batı’daki ilk örneklerden birebir yansımaları;
oyunlar arasındaki benzerlikler yanında sosyo-politik ve ekonomik arka plandan
kaynaklanan farklılıkları irdelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Genel olarak 1970’li yıllardan
itibaren (neredeyse her on yılda bir gerçekleşen ihtilallerle paralel olarak) onar yıllık aralarla toplamda yedi yazarın on dört oyununun eklektik yöntemle çok boyutlu olarak
As is in every field of life, in the field of literature interaction between the literatures of different nations is inevitable. As it is looked in the context of Turkish Literature the interaction process generally between Western-Turkish literatures and particularly between French-Turkish literatures which has increased through translation especially in Tanzimat Period (1839-1895) has continued from 1800s up to this day although the degree of impact and the direction of it has changed from period to period. The fact that the first work that was produced as a result of the effect of French Literature of Turkish Literature was Şinasi’s Şair Evlenmesi, is significant in terms of this study. However, the effects on Turkish Theatre are not solely limited to the reflections from French Theatre. After Epic Theatre which was developed by German playwright Bertolt Brecht in 1920s, reached the Turkish playwrights in the 1970s through translation again, the result was the writing of similar plays by many Turkish playwrights in that period, Haldun Taner being the leading writer. In the same period, another tradition that appeared in the West in 1950s and was called The Absurd Theatre also starts to show its effects on Turkish Theatre. This study generally aims to discuss the effects of The Absurd Theatre on Turkish Theatre after 1970s, and particulary it aims to debate the reflections from the first examples in the West; the differences deriving from the socio-political and economic background as well as the similarities. Generally this study in which
fourteen plays of seven writers have been handled multi-dimensionally with the
eclectic method in the time period of ten-year intervals from 1970s onwards
(paralelling with the revolutions taking place almost every ten years), makes strenuous
effort to compare the plays belonging to different cultures in terms of their similarities,
differences and the reasons of them and thus to contribute to the Science of
Comparative Literature.
As a result, it is observed that the Absurd Theatre tradition which was born and
developed in the Western literature affected the Turkish Theatre intensely starting
from the 1970s; however, despite the similarities between the plays in terms of the
characteristics of the Absurd Theatre, due to the completely different political, social
and economic conditions, Turkish playwrights handled the background and the
problems of the period in which the plays were written in their plays either explicitly
or implicitly. Besides this, it is seen that Turkish playwrights have not restricted their
plays only to the characteristics of Absurd Theatre, but -in spite of not having complete
commonity- they have enriched them with the Epic Theatre techniques, surrealism and
the characteristics of rural folk plays in different periods, and thus actually they created
synthetic plays. The most significant contribution of this study to Turkish Theatre will
be, to bring a new breath to the subject of Absurd Theatre, which is seen as an “infertile
and exhausted” subject that “closed its period”, in the context of Turkish Theatre and
to encourage the new studies that will be done in this field.
