It is aimed to produce some composites and to reveal the physical features of the
produced composites in this study. The method of classic powder metallurgy has been
used for sample preparation. WC-Co-Ni, WC-Co-Ti and WC-Fe-Ti composites have
been produced with the use of WC (Tungsten carbide) powder and the two of the Fe
(Iron), Co (Cobalt), Ni (Nickel) and Ti (Titanium) powders as binder phase for the
preparation of ceramic-metal composite samples. On the other hand, in order to
produce metal based composite samples Fe-Co-Ni, Fe-Cr-Ni and Fe-Ti-Ni have been
produced by selecting Fe powder as base material and two of the Fe, Co, Ni, Ti and Cr
(Chromium) powders as binder phase. Sintering has been applied in conventional
furnace with 1000°C after the mixtures have been prepared with different ratios.
The Young modulus (E) of the produced composites has been measured with the
help of the density measured through Archimedes principle and the ultrasonic velocity
measured through ultrasonic pulse-echo method and immersion method. Thermal
conductivity has been measured via hot disk method. The relation between the Young
modulus which is measured through two different methods and thermal conductivity
have been physically examined and the obtained results have been compared to the
literature. Moreover, within the study the relationship between ultrasonic longitudinal
and transverse wave velocity measured with the methods of pulse-echo and immersion,
and the percentages of the produced composites has been analyzed and the information
about the features of the structure like microstructure, reliability and porosity has been
obtained.
