Kaplamada
yüksek tungsten monokarbür (WC) içeriği arzulanan bir durumdur. Gerçek kullanım
şartlarında aşınmaya maruz kalacak tungsten karbür kaplamaların plazma sprey
parametrelerinin seçiminde bu tez çalışmasından elde edilen bilgilerin kullanılması
yararlı olacaktır.
Tungsten carbide-cobalt coatings have been widely used in many industries for
applications where high wear resistance is required. Different kinds of thermal spraying
techniques, such as atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) can be applied to deposit WCCo
coatings; however, the properties of such coatings strongly depend on the spraying
parameters.
This study has sought to evaluate the influence of primary and secondary plasma
gases (Ar and H2) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of plasma-sprayed
WC-Co coatings. Titanium and stainless steel were used as substrate material. Coated
samples were subjected to abrasion, tensile and hardness tests, and evaluated by
metallographic techniques. The effect of process parameters on microstructural and
mechanical properties was reviewed to achieve more robust coatings with higher
performance.
As a conclusion of the thesis it has been determined that for a better performance
the parameter selection needs to be carried out at an appropriate range. The test results
both for titanium and stainless steel substrates are similar. Increasing the hydrogen gas
flow resulted in coatings with lower wear resistance. Increasing the argon gas flow
allowed better wear resistance. The formations of secondary phases are detrimental to
hardness, rupture and wear resistance. A coating with high tungsten monocarbide (WC)
retention is desirable. It shall be useful to use information and experience, collected
from this thesis while the selection of plasma spray process parameters of tungsten
carbide coatings that are going to be exposed to wear.
