In this thesis study, first, the general quantum mechanical properties of identical
particle systems were examined. In particular, statistical distribution functions of identical
particle systems were studied with the help of operator algebra, by referring to the quantum
algebra that the boson and fermion oscillators satisfy in one dimension.
Secondly, in the high-and low-temperature limits, thermo-statistical functions of an
ideal Fermi gas such as the average number of particles, entropy, internal energy were
studied. A virial expansion of the equation of state of an ideal Fermi gas for two and three
dimensional spaces was examined in the high-temperature limit.
Thirdly, in the high-temperature limit, the thermo-statistical properties of a
deformed fermion gas, which constituents the original part of this thesis and was known as
the VPJC-fermion model in the literature (Viswanathan et al., 1992; Chaichian et al., 1993;
Algin, 2011), were discussed. Thermo-statistical properties of the model such as the
average number of particle, specific volume, and entropy were examined in terms of the
deformation parameter q, which has values in the interval 0 q 1. By obtaining the
generalized Fermi-Dirac functions, in the two and three dimensional spaces, the first four
virial coefficients in the virial expansion of the equation of state of the model were
calculated depending on the deformation parameter q. Possible effects of deformation on
the thermo-statistical functions of the VPJC-fermion gas model are investigated.
In the last section, comparisons of the thermo-statistical results of the VPJC-fermion
gas model with the high-temperature thermo-statistical results of both a free fermion gas
and of the other q-deformed fermion gas models studied in the literature were performed.
From the studies made in this research, the following main results were found: The model
forms a deformed fermion system with no exclusion principle when 0 q 1. The
deformation brings about decreasing effects on the entropy values of the system. In the two
and three dimensional spaces, the sign of the third virial coefficient of the equation of state
of the model changes depending on the values of the parameter q for high temperatures. In
this regard, the original fermionic character of the model could have a similar character as
in the case of a boson gas. Finally, possible application areas of the VPJC-fermion gas
model were briefly discussed.
