We don’t have exact information about Zevkî, being a poet who belongs to
Azerbaijan field. Owing to the collection of biographies written in Persian, we
inquire about limited information which is related to the poet who is not mentioned
in the collection of biographies which belongs to Anatolian field. Zevkî’s Divan, we
only have one copy of, numbered as ‘’ Supplement turc 733(cote) ‘’ is registered in
the Collections of Manuscripts Department in Paris National Library and it consists
of 168 leaves. The record (H.1098) at the end of the work strenghtens the possibility
that Zevkî lived in 17th century. Most of the poetries in the Divan were written in the
ghazal verse-form and they discuss sufistic matters. Along with Turkish poetry,
Persian poetry written in sufistic nature is present within the Zevkî’s Divan. Poetries
of Zevkî, while carrying a strong Shiah emphasis, also seem to be influenced by
Hurufism to a degree. Most prominent feature of the poet is being an intimate
follower of Nesîmî; who is considered to be one of the most lyric poets of Turkish
literature and who was an ebullient sufi. The short summary of information about
Zevkî’s Divan we propounded above has importance for the history of literature. In
this study, considering the importance of divan for the Turkish history of literature,
Zevkî’s Divan is explicated about form, content, language and style therefore aimed
to be annexed into the world of science.
