ASTM ( The American Society of Testing and Materials ) tarafından da 1987 yılında kabul edilmiş ve standartlaştırılmıştır.
Slake durability index test was proposed by Chandra, Chandra and Franklin. This test has been taken place in rock mechanics as one of the recommended tests by ISRM (The International Society for Rock Mechanics) in 1981 and standardized. This test has been accepted by ASTM (The American Society of Testing and Materials) in 1987 and standardized.
The purpose of the test, which usually practices to clastic rocks as wetting and drying cycles is to determine an index value indicating wear and the resistance to dissolution in water. The index value which is determined by the test can be used stability problems related to open pit or pickling and reductions of the strength in underground openings.
This thesis was done to determine the effect of spheresizes on slake durability index value. Massive marl and laminated marl which were received from Tuncbilek Lignite Plant BY-G and BY-H panels and Seyitomer Lignite Plant were used for this thesis. Hence, primarily the groups which were consisted of 10 sphere samples having equal size and equal weight in itself were generated as 60, 55, 50, 45 and 40 g from rock samples and were subjected to dry and wet cycle. Values, which were obtained from dry and wet cycles recorded, the assessment was done by the comparing with each other and the effect of sphere size on the slake durability index value was determined. The noticeable effect of sphere sizes wasn’t observed on the slake durability index value.
