In this study, numerical solutions of some partial differential equation systems using
exponential cubic B-spline collocation method are investigated. The systems are timediscretized
using the Crank-Nicolson method. The nonlinear terms in the time-discretized form
of the system are discretized by way of the Taylor method. The application of the exponential
B-spline collocation method to the time-discretized system gives the fully-discretized systems
which is an algebraic diagonal banded equation system. So an exponential cubic B-spline
collocation algorithm is designed for numerical solutions of the system of partial differential
equation. Experimental accuracy of algorithm is discussed with comparing obtained solutions
with the solutions existing in the literature. Free parameter of exponential cubic B-spline
functions is determined experimentally over the predefined interval to give best solution.
Obtained solutions of physical models are shown when different initial conditions are applied,
In the first chapter, the finite difference, the finite element methods, B-spline functions,
exponential cubic B-spline collocation method, nonlinear evolution equations, conversation
laws and soliton waves are described. In later chapters, the numerical solutions of nonlinear
Schrödinger equation, reaction-diffusion equation system, coupled Burgers’ equation and
Boussinesq eqaution system are obtained. The accuracy of numerical method is shown with
maximum error norm for when analytical solution is known and relative error norm for when
analytical solution is unknown.
