In this study, thermal and hydraulic performance of the mini channel flat tube
compact heat exchangers with louvered fins was investigated experimentally under different
humidity conditions. The heat exchanger models tested under different surrounding
conditions were determined by a series of numerical studies and preliminary experiments.
This study, which was carried out for the performance of compact heat exchangers for
different humidity conditions intended to be used as a condenser in domestic refrigerators
by the project partner, consists of the divisions summarized below.
In the 1st division of this study, energy efficiency for the heating, cooling and air
conditioning sector and the effects of heat exchangers for this sector were briefly explained.
In the 2nd division, the difference that the company produces domestic refrigerators would
create in its own market by using compact and energy efficient heat exchanger with less
refrigerant was emphasized. The 3rd division includes a literature survey for the mini channel
compact heat exchanger with louvered fins. In the 4th division, the performance calculations
of the louvered fin geometries, which have a special place in the context of compact heat
exchangers, have been described. In the 5th, 6th and 7th divisions of this study, the studies that
forms the basis of the original thesis were given in detail. In the 5th division, the thermal and
hydraulic performance of the louvered fins were investigated numerically by using ANSYS
2D module. In the 6th division, the performances of two mini-channel compact heat
exchangers with louvered fins, produced using geometric parameters with the highest
performance found in the previous division, were experimentally investigated in an wind
tunnel set. In the 7th division, the thermal performances of the heat exchangers tested in the
previous section were examined at different cold fluid temperatures. Normalized results
were expressed in terms of overall thermal conductance, heat transfer number and
effectiveness. In the 8th division which is the basis for the original thesis, the thermal and
hydraulic performances of louvered fin heat exchangers with one and two intermediate plate
were tested at an air velocity range of 0.8-5.6 m/s with two different relative humidity (30%-
90%) under the assumptions of dry surface. The results were presented as Colburn j-factor
and friction factor.
