Multipar gebelerin
(%48.5), %14.2’sinin normal vajinal doğum, %47.8’inin epizyotomili vajinal
Aim: Childbirth is a process that is highly dependent on the person and
whose outcomes can not be precisely predicted. Alternative birth methods for
fear, which is a universal and natural event that manifests itself in the birth
process, is a worldwide phenomenon. The aim of this study is to determine
the level of knowledge about the physical and physiological effects of water
birth on mother, fetus and newborn, and to raise awareness related to water
birth.
Material and Method: The research was carried out between March 01 and
April 30 in 2016 in Eskisehir Osmangazi University Health Practice and
Research Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and Turkey Public
Hospitals Institution Eskişehir State Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic
with 1000 pregnant who volunteers to participate in the study. As a data
collection tool; A 68-question questionnaire form developed by the
researcher in line with literature knowledge was used. The data were
collected using face-to-face interview method by the researcher. At the end
of the form, the pregnants were screened on the 5 minutes waterbirth video
and marked on the form whether the ideas of giving waterbirth have
changed. In the evaluation of the data, SPSS (version 20.0) and Minitab
(version 16.0) Statistical Package Programs were used.
Results: It was determined that 26.52 ± 5.17 of the pregnants of the
working group with average age, 68% living in provincial center, %60.8 with
well-educated people at least high-school degree, 76.1% did not work at any
job and 90.9% with social security. It was found in terms of percentage that
14.2% of multiparous pregnants (48.5%) with normal vaginal delivery,
47.8% with episiotomy vaginal delivery and 37.9% with delivery of cesarean
sectio. Other findings: 83.3% of the pregnants were in the 3rd trimester,
65.3% were fearful of the birth, 15.3% were in pregnancy education and
33.3% were given waterbirth information in pregnancy education. Initially, it
was determined that 39.5% of the pregnant women wanted to give
waterbirth and 63.1% of the pregnant women wanted to give it after the
waterbirth videos. In our study, it was determined that the mean score of
the pregnant women in relation to waterbirth questions was 5.99 ± 8.57 and
29.1% of them had sufficient information about waterbirth. Also, it was
found that there was a statistically significant difference between the
adequacy of knowledge waterbirth in pregnants and the variables such as
hospitals, settlements, age group, education level, working status, pregnancy number, planned pregnancy, participation pregnancy education
(p<0.05).
Conclusion: In our study, it was determined that the adequacy of the
knowledge level of the pregnant women about waterbirth which is not
offered as an alternative option in our country was low.
